Stock/Security gifts

Do you want to give to APOPO and plan on selling US based securities in the near future? Gifts of stock and securities offer mutual benefits to APOPO and the donor, offering you increased tax benefits and APOPO 100% of the proceeds!

Here is how it works:

  • selling a stock or bond that has appreciated in value subjects the individual seller to a tax on that capital gain
  • a public US charity, such as APOPO US, is not subject to income taxation, therefore APOPO can sell your donated securities without being subject to the capital gains tax
  • additionally, a charitable gift of securities held for over one year normally entitles the donor to an income tax deduction equal to the value of the security at the time it is donated to the charity, not just its purchase price.

US taxpayers can give all or some of their estate to APOPO through a bequest. A gift of a particular amount or a percentage of a remaining estate may be designated for general use or for a charitable recipient's special need. Portions or the entirety of all liquid assets, including real estate, stocks, retirement plans, life insurance policies and other items of value can all be given to APOPO through a bequest.

No estate, gift or any other tax will be due on assets given to APOPO through a bequest. To plan a charitable bequest, inform your attorney of your wishes and ask for advice regarding the setup of your gift, and the optimal assets to include. Below is sample language that can be used.
